Mr. Patrick Wakhu
Mr. Wakhu was appointed as the Training and Extension Director in June 2010. Patrick Wakhu holds an MSc (with distinction) degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Survey Integration for Resources Development (specializing in Rural Energy and Development) from the International Institute for Aerospace Survey and Earth Sciences (ITC) in the Netherlands. He also has a BSc (Hons) in Zoology from the University of Khartoum in Sudan. As the Training & Extension Director (June 2010-present) at the African Institute for Capacity Development (AICAD) he spearheads the institute's training programmes whose goal is to enhance human capacity development by imparting knowledge and skills in order to solve identified socio-economic problems and reduce poverty in Africa.
He was recruited as AICAD's Assistant Research and Development (R&D) Director in May 2004 and contributed immensely towards identification of research and development needs of communities and industries, and supported application of research results in poverty reduction. He then served as Acting R&D Director (2006-2007) before being relocated to AICAD's Kenya Country Office to take up the position of Assistant Country Director (2007-2010), successfully coordinating implementation of AICAD's research, training and information dissemination programmes in Kenya. He has a wealth of experience in Environment, Natural Resources Management and Rural Development gained while working at the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) as Natural Resources Management Specialist/Coordinator of the Kilimanjaro Heartland Conservation Program (2000-2002), the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) as Program Officer/Consultant (1994-2000); and the Department of Resource Surveys and Remote Sensing in Kenya's Ministry of Planning and National Development as Resource Ecologist/Biologist (1988-1994).
