Background

   The idea of a Base for African Human Capacity Building (BAHCB) was

   addressed at the 2nd Tokyo International Conference for African     

   Development (TICAD ll) of October 1998 in Tokyo, Japan.  The African

   Institute for Capacity Development (AICAD), the  outcome of this

   discussion, was established in 2000.

   The Institute is  jointly financed by the three East African

  Governments; Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, with the support of the Government of Japan through Japan International Cooperation Agency, (JICA).

 

AICAD has four divisions through which the activies are managed. These are, Administration and Finance, Research and Development, Training and Extention as well as Information Network and Documentation.

In addition, AICAD has country offices in each of the three East African Countries. These country offices, in collaboration with headquarters, implement the activities of AICAD.
