Uganda Country Office

Background

The AICAD Uganda Country office was established in 2000. It is located at Plot 144, Pool Road, Makerere University, (Opposite the Second ICT building) and headed by a Country Director, Dr. David B. Mutetikka. This office is responsible for coordinating the institute's programs and activities dealing with poverty reduction in Uganda through human capacity development by linking knowledge to application.  Most of the funding for programmes is from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Governments of Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.

Programmes

AICAD Uganda's primarily aim is poverty alleviation, by facilitating the local people to solve their problems. To do this, AICAD works with African Universities and other institutions to filter and apply those aspects of research that are of practical significance to targeted users. These include public universities such as Makerere, Kyambogo, Mbarara, Gulu and Busitema. As part of its human capacity development, AICAD's network has played useful roles in supporting young institutions, individual researchers (through graduate student's research) and communities. Apart from Research and Development, AICAD has carried out many activities under Training and Extension (T&E) and Information Networking and Documentation (IN &D).

To date, AICAD has conducted activities in over 25 districts of Uganda. The districts include Sironko, Kampala, Kumi, Wakiso, Soroti, Mbarara, Masaka, Rakai, Kamuli, Kyenjojo, Iganga, Manafa, Mbale, Tororo, Busia, Mpigi, Nakasongola, Fort Portal, Sembabule, Bugiri, Kaliro, Kayunga, Mityana, Ntungamo and Gulu.
